Candy

Percussionist and pianist Candy “is a fierce player with a very dramatic approach to performance and a theatrical flair,” said Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang. Candy has performed at many prestigious venues throughout the U.S. and Asia, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Galapagos Art Space. With a deep passion for chamber music, she has performed with many world-class musicians, such as violinist Philip Setzer (Emerson String Quartet) and early music virtuoso Mark Cudek. Candy also actively commissions new works and has given numerous premiere performances, including works by Lukas Ligeti, David Kechley, and Andy Akiho.

Candy earned her Master of Music degree from Yale School of Music and her Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with Robert van Sice. She believes that finding each student’s unique approach is the key to unlocking their passion and musical voice.

Candy has taught percussion, piano, and ear training classes to students of all levels and all ages at various institutions. She has trained students who have been accepted into leading colleges for music, such as Jacobs School of Music at the University of Indiana Bloomington and University of Massachusetts Amherst. Candy also has experience in teaching ear training as an Assistant at the Yale School of Music.

She recently moved to California and now has open availability to teach in the Greater Los Angeles area.
